What is Ugrade Protection?

Our software comes with free updates to the current major version.
Upgrade Protection ensures free upgrades to the next major versions.

What's the difference between update and upgrade?

Upgrade

Upgrade means a major, standalone version of a software product. Such products are usually something you purchase. Upgrades usually have a significant amount of improvements and new features.

Update

An update updates a major version of software, but does not upgrade it to the next major version. Software updates are free of charge and typically provide fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility, and security. Sometimes updates can also introduce minor new features or enhancements.

Why do we charge for Upgrades?

Upgrade fees enable us to create new product versions and develop new features, because it usually takes considerable amount of time and money to create and release a new major version of a software product.

Consider this analogy - when you buy a new computer, although you get free maintenance and guarantee, you would not expect a new computer to be delivered to you every few years free of charge. The same applies to software.

Who is eligible to a free upgrade?

All our regular and upgrade licenses include a 6-month Upgrade Protection as standard. This means that customers who purchased the previous major version of the software less than 6 months before a new major version was released are eligible to a free upgrade to the new major version. With some products we also offer an extended 3-year Upgrade Protection for an extra fee.

Licenses provided for free or sold via SMS do not include any Upgrade Protection.
